What archival quality actually means

Not a scan —
a restoration.

A 600 DPI scan captures four times more detail than a standard 300 DPI scan. At that resolution, a 4×6 print becomes a 3,600 × 2,400 pixel image — large enough to print at any size without visible loss of quality.

Every photograph also receives colour correction, dust and scratch removal, and basic restoration as part of the standard process. Significantly faded or damaged prints receive additional restoration at no extra charge, up to the limits of what's recoverable.

The result isn't just a digital copy. It's often a better version of the original — colours restored, damage minimized, ready to enlarge, print, or share.

The part that actually matters

Organized so your family
can find what they're looking for.

Getting a folder of 847 files named IMG_0001.jpg through IMG_0847.jpg is not a finished archive. It's digital clutter.

Legacy Digital Vault organizes every photo by decade, year, and event — the same way you'd naturally tell your family's story. Files are renamed consistently: 1984_07_Summer_Vacation_001.jpg. Folders are labelled by chapter of life. Your family will be able to find a specific moment without searching through hundreds of unnamed files.

The archive is delivered via a private, password-protected cloud link — free with every vault — active for 30 days. Download to your computer, Google Photos, iCloud, or anywhere you like.

"I've had photos scanned before — just a dump of files. This is different. It's a real archive. Every folder named, every decade labeled. My grandkids will actually be able to find things."

Common questions

Photo scanning in Austin —
questions answered.

How much does photo scanning cost in Austin?

Vault Essentials ($299) covers up to 300 photos; Vault Plus ($799) covers up to 1,000. All packages include free in-home collection, colour correction, organization, and your private cloud link. Use the price calculator for an instant estimate.

What resolution do you scan photos at?

600 DPI minimum for standard prints — up to 1,200 DPI for damaged, faded, or small photographs. 35mm slides and negatives are scanned at 2,400 DPI minimum. All scans exceed the standard for archival-quality preservation.

Do you scan photos stuck in magnetic albums?

Yes. Magnetic albums are among the most damaging formats for photo preservation — the adhesive degrades and bonds to the print over time. We handle them with extra care and scan every photo individually.

Do I have to bring my photos somewhere?

No. We collect from your home anywhere in the Austin metro at no charge, including evenings and weekends. You receive a signed inventory receipt before anything leaves your hands.

How will my scanned photos be organized?

Organized by decade, year, and event — not by file number. Every file is renamed consistently and every folder is labelled by chapter of life, so your family can actually find what they're looking for.

Can you scan photos that are damaged or faded?

Yes. Faded prints, water-damaged photos, cracked prints, and yellowed images are all handled. Every photo receives colour correction and basic restoration. Severely damaged prints receive additional restoration at no extra charge.
