My daughter once asked to see pictures of me as a little boy. What should have taken a few minutes took me nearly three days.
I searched through boxes in the garage, old bins, forgotten albums — and eventually had to call family back home in Africa to help find more photos.
That experience made me realize how fragile family memories really are. So many of our most meaningful moments are trapped in aging formats, scattered across boxes, old tapes, discs, and devices that people can barely access anymore. And sometimes, by the time families go looking, parts of their history are already damaged or lost forever.
I started digitizing and organizing my own family's photos, tapes, and recordings to make sure those memories would be protected and easy to pass down. What started as something personal eventually became Legacy Digital Vault — helping other families preserve their history before it disappears.
